PROJECT UPDATE!

It has been awhile since we posted, so we wanted to take this opportunity to update everyone on the status of the LWRP project.

After our last public meeting back in February the Cayuga County Planning Dept. staff have been working with the Village Planning Board, NYS DOS staff and legal team, and the Town Planning Board to review and finalize the draft plan and draft local laws.

In July, the Town Board decided that the Town would not adopt the LWRP and confirmed this decision with County Planning Staff and NYS DOS staff at the end of August.

The Village Board of Trustees is still quite eager to adopt the LWRP and the associated local laws that are required and will be moving forward with the project.

Currently, County Planning staff is working to revise the draft LWRP so that it will now be just a plan for the Village of Union Springs. Unfortunately this task will take a bit of time, but we should still be able to complete the project before the grant expires at the end of May 2019.

So what's next? Well, as we said, County Planning staff will be working diligently to update the document, maps, logo, etc. to be just for the Village. After the draft document has been updated, County Planning staff will meet with the Village Planning Board to review the updated document. Once everyone is satisfied with the content, the project website will be updated with the new draft sections and a social media post will go out informing everyone of the update. We will likely also provide new draft copies at the Springport Free Library.

Then the Village Board of Trustees will pass a resolution and submit a formal letter to NYS DOS requesting that they begin their 60-Day Agency Review of the LWRP. After the 60 days, we will receive comments back from NYS DOS and possibly need to make some minor changes to the draft document. Finally, the Village Board of Trustees will complete a SEQR review, hold a public hearing, adopt the local laws, and then adopt the LWRP.

The LWRP Advisory Committee, Village of Union Springs, and Cayuga County Planning staff want to thank everyone again for your contributions, commitment, and enthusiasm for this project!!

The Village is already underway on 3 grant projects that they received as a direct result of the content of the draft plan from last year's NYS grant (CFA) cycle. If you want more information about these exciting transformative projects please check out the Mayor's Blog at http://unionspringsny.com/mayor/ or contact the Village Offices.

Please stay tuned for additional updates and please continue to support the Village of Union Springs as we work to finalize this important project!
