LWRP Project Update...Public Hearings for Adoption March 17, 2020!!

Here is a long awaited project update...

The Village of Union Springs Board of Trustees has been working with myself (Senior Planner with the Cayuga County Dept. of Planning and Economic Development) and staff from the NYS Department of State to finalize the language in the zoning amendments and new local laws necessary to implement and adopt the Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP) since last fall. A final set of proposed zoning amendments and local laws were agreed to on February 18, 2020; and the project is now rapidly approaching the finish line!

The Village will hold a series of public hearings on March 17, 2020 starting at approximately 6:05 pm on the zoning amendments, local laws, and the LWRP document itself. After the public hearings, the Village Board of Trustees will consider each item for adoption separately. If all goes well, Union Springs will be the first municipality along Cayuga Lake to adopt a Local Waterfront Revitalization Program; but they will not be the last! During the course of the work to develop this LWRP several communities along the lake, in and out of Cayuga County, have taken notice and inquired about the process...wondering if it would be right for them. The Village of Cayuga decided it was, and will be starting to develop their own LWRP later this year. Thank you everyone who has been involved in and supported this process; and for setting such a great example of community planning to inspire others to do the same!

Although this process has taken longer than originally planned, I'm confident that the end result will be well worth the wait and all the extra hours to see this through to the finish line. The many projects already underway in the Village are a true testament to the ideals and passion for a better future that this entire community holds!
